"Spiral Into:", Ground Floor Rotunda, Doheny Memorial Library

 February 8, 2024

"Spiral Into:" is a site-specific projection installation that explores the theme of transience and refuge. The installation, carefully projected onto the ceiling of a semi-pentagon shaped study room becomes a canvas for exploration and reflection.

As it dance upon the ceiling, the work prompts viewers to consider the cyclical nature of international students’ life. Drawing from the artist's own identity as a Chinese international student studying in the US for nearly a decade, this perspective infuses the work with a nuanced understanding of adaptation and belonging.

In addition to its visual elements, "Spiral Into:" prompts viewers with three self-reflexive questions: "Where are you from?" "Where are you going?" and "Why are you here?" Through these questions, "Spiral Into:" becomes a catalyst for self-reflection and philosophical exploration.
